Veterinary Services District Meetings
To encourage sharing of lessons learned and best practices for disease preparedness and response among the exotic animal industry, The ZAHP Fusion Center, with support from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), has held a number of meetings across the country to bring stakeholders together to continue these important discussions.
These meetings, roughly aligned with Veterinary Services Districts, invite USDA Animal Care, Veterinary Services, Wildlife Services, and the exotic animal industry together with State Animal Health Officials.
The University of Illinois, a key partner in the Zoo Ready meetings, facilitates the meetings and arranges for speakers from the local region so presentations are tailored to animal disease issues that are concerns by region. These meetings are designed to introduce the ZAHP Fusion Center projects.
Feedback from these meetings reveals that participants felt they were extremely valuable in building collaborations and understanding between regulatory officials, the exotic animal industry and other stakeholder groups such as local agricultural concerns.
